Mail Flow connectors are used to enable mail flow between your Office 365 / Exchange environment and the Archive service. They are used to 'bypass' any unnecessary hops for the delivery of traffic between your mail service and the archive service. (for example mail filtering such as AV/SPAM).
For View Archiving, we recommend the application of the following:
Exchange Admin Centre/Control Panel
Mail Flow --> Connectors
Add new Connector (+)
Select From 'Office 365' or 'Your Organizations mail server', whichever is applicable to you
Select To 'Partner Organization'
Name the connector appropriately:Next

Using the details required to set up the journal rule, the unique mailbox address for your archive account, you will need to copy the DOMAIN details. These will look something similar to this EXAMPLE: uniquemailboxaddress@eu1.journaladdress.com (please note that these addresses are different depending on the region / service your account is using so very important to identify the correct one in the specific archive account)
Copy the domain element . eu1.journaladdress.com, this will be used for the next part of the connector configuration

Using the domain of the unique mailbox address, look up the appointed DNS record for the MX records. This will be the smart host to use to deliver the traffic. You will need this to set 'route email through these smart hosts' . An example is given below.
dig mx eu1.journaladdress.com
; <<>> DiG 9.10.6 <<>> mx eu1.journaladdress.com

Microsoft will start a process to confirm that the connector will work with the specific criteria that has been applied. This could take a minute or two
Once completed the results will be shown if successful.
If successful, save the connector, if it failed, review all the above settings to ensure they were applied correctly.
